Description: This is an outstanding black ash woven splint herb gathering basket from New England, circa 1800s for your consideration. The antique black ash basket is woven in a traditional rectangular shape with a bentwood handle. The hand carved bentwood handle is notched and woven deep into the sides of the basket. There is old oxidation that surrounds the nails that were secured into the basket. The antique black ash basket has a bentwood rim that is single coiled with black ash splints. The bottom of the antique black ash basket has an open weave to allow for air circulation.
Condition Report: Excellent condition with age appropriate wear and patina.
Dimensions: 14 inches long, 10 inches wide from handle to handle, and 11 inches high including the handle.
