Description: This is a rare and outstanding colonial wrought iron herb chopper from New England, circa 1700s for your consideration. Herbs played an important role in the colonial homestead. The colonial wife would use herbs to make medicines and for food preparation. The colonial wife would chop the herbs finely to make the medicinal remedies and for seasoning. The herb chopper was hand wrought by a blacksmith in the shape of a miniature meat cleaver. The wrought iron herb chopper is very thick, heavy and tapers nicely toward the very sharp blade.
