(35.5 x 27 cm.)PROVENANCEKennedy Galleries Inc., New YorkAfter 1887, N. A. Brooks produced money still lifes of three relatively distinct categories. The present work is typical of the third category of money images which follow a large format with single bills along with letters, bank checks, theater and racing handbills. Brooks rarely dated his paintings, but the present work was probably painted in 1890, the date on the racing handbill. A similar work from this period entitled Ten Dollar Bill with Saratoga Racing Form is in the collection of the Brandywine River Museum.
