Synthetic polymer paint on linen Bears artist's name, size and Papunya Tula Artists catalogue number NN0109162 on the reverse
PROVENANCE Painted for Papunya Tula Artists, Alice Springs Gallery Gabrielle Pizzi, Melbourne Private collection, U.S.A. This painting is sold with an accompanying certificate from Papunya Tula Artists that reads in part: 'This painting depicts designs associated with the rockhole site of Yumarra, east of punkilpirri, which is north-west of Docker River in the Walter James Range. The artist has shown the hilly country through which a group of women passed during their travels from Yumarra to Punkilpirri and then north to Tjukula and Tjalili. The two sets of short lines are hair string skirts which are worn during ceremonies associated with the area. During their travels the women gathered the edible berries known as kampurarrpa or desert raisin from the small shrub Solanum centrale, also the Wanguna or woollybutt seeds from the grass Eragrostis erapoda. These seeds are ground into a paste and formed into a type of damper which is cooked in the coals'.
