Erste deutsche Ausgabe. - Fromm 11794 - Goedeke IV/1, 1091, 43 - Wolfstieg 5152 - Taute 815: "Eine brauchbare Sammlung der bis dahin über den Orden bekannt gewordenen Nachrichten." - Philippe-Antoine Grouvelle (1758-1806) durchlebte eine schnelle Karriere während der Französischen Revolution: Vor Ausbruch noch Sekretär des Prinzen de Conde, dann Gründer einer revolutionären Zeitschrift und 1792 als Mitglied der Revolutionsregierung zusammen mit dem Justizminister Verkünder des Todesurteils über Ludwig XVI. Später veröffentlichte Grouvelle historische Arbeiten; die hier vorliegenden, 1805 im Original erschienenen "Mémoires historiques sur les Templiers" entkräften weitgehend die Vorwürfe gegen die Templer. - Der Übersetzer Carl Friedrich Cramer (1752-1807) ging als glühender Anhänger der Revolution 1795 nach Paris und versuchte mit Übersetzungen französischer Werke seine ehemaligen Landsleute von den Revolutionsidealen zu überzeugen. - Teilweise gebräunt bzw. braunfleckig (Titel stärker), die ersten Blätter unten leicht eselsohrig.
