Chicago, IL, USALive Auction
Description: Buffalo robe circa 1880. This robe is old and has many period repairs sewn with thread. It is a wonderful skin with great hair, but it has seen its better day. It is somewhat fragile as there are tears and holes in the robe. Please examine all photos closely for the details. It is extremely difficult to find real buffalo robes this old. It is 6 feet from top to bottom and about 80" at widest point across front legs". The robe is stamped twice H & S. Who is or what does H & S stand for, is the million dollar question. It does appear to be a very old stamp so it possibly could have been the trading post or tanner where the skin was tanned or sold.
