Elvis recorded his 34th album in 1968 from June 20 through 23 at Western Recorders in Hollywood, and then in front of a live audience at the NBC Studios on June 27 and 29. These sessions were for the television special dubbed the "'68 Comeback Special," which aired on NBC on December 3, 1968, shortly after RCA released the album, entitled simply Elvis, in November 1968. The broadcast of the special ranked as the top-rated television special of that year and was credited with revitalizing Elvis' career.
Offered is a rare, blue-green, original complimentary ticket for the Saturday, June 29, 6:00 p.m. session at NBC in Studio 4. The ticket places NBC Color City at 3000 W. Alameda Ave., Burbank, Calif., with the performance listed as "'ELVIS' / starring / ELVIS PRESLEY / In Color / Children Under 12 Will Not Be Admitted." Guests were encouraged to arrive at 5:00 p.m. The reverse of the ticket lists stipulations and reads, in part:
Complimentary Ticket - Not To Be Sold / This card of admission is void unless presented at studio and seat taken by the time specified on the face hereof. Children under 16 not admitted unless accompanied by parents or guardians. Age rules subject to change according to specifications on face of ticket. As this is a complimentary ticket, NBC reserves the right to revoke it at any time. In accepting this card, holder consents to being televised directly or by means of television recording and to use of holder's name and likeness or either, and releases National Broadcasting Company, Inc., any sponsor of the program specified on the face hereof and its advertising agents from liability for loss or damage to person or property and agrees to comply with all rates and regulations of the National Broadcasting Company, Inc. Privilege accorded by the card is revocable for conduct inconsistent with program requirements. Smoking and use of cameras prohibited in the studio.
The ticket measures approximately 1 1/2 inches by 4 inches (3.81 x 10.16 cm). This historic ticket is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
Condition Report: The ticket has been very well preserved, exhibiting only the slightest wear to the corners. Excellent to Mint condition.
