Description: (ORNITHOLOGICAL WATERCOLOR.) Anonymous watercolor study of hummingbirds, a blue banana bird, a bird of paradise and raptors. Watercolor on wove paper watermarked "J Whatman 1834." 19 1/2x15 1/4 inches sheet size; faint toning at edges, small closed marginal tear. [Probably England, circa 1834]

Notes: Evidently compiled by an admirer of early nineteenth century natural history plate books, the sketches are derived from various publications such as "Oriental Memoirs" by James Forbes, 1813; "Journal of a Voyage to New South Wales" by John White, 1790; "An Account of the English Colony in New South Wales" by David Collins, 1802; and others.
