Description: ''Mountain Ranch'', cabin in a sweeping mountain and foothills landscape, signed lower right: Orrin A. White, titled on the stretcher, titled again on a gum label affixed to the stretcher, oil on canvas, 38.25'' H x 42'' W, est: $15,000/20,000. Exhibited: The Snow Gallery, San Marino, CA, ''Paintings by Orrin A. White'', 4 October - 1 November 1968, illustrated on the exhibition brochure; The Christian Science Monitor, 26 March 1969, p. 12, illustrated. Note: Included in what was likely the artist's last major gallery exhibition before his death in 1969, the present work is a showstopper displaying the artist's virtuosity in capturing California's diverse foothills and mountain topography. Janice Lovoos writes of the present work in a 1969 ''Christian Science Monitor'' article: ''Sun-washed golden tones glow over rolling hills and trees, touch roof tops and a ranch house in the foreground. It is the kind of scene that in the late '20s and '30s inspired an entire school of California landscape artists of which White is one of the most gifted and prolific'' (J. Loovos, ''The Christian Science Monitor'', ''The Home Forum'', 26 March 1969, p. 12). A copy of the newspaper article along with the exhibition brochure and copies of gallery invoices accompanies the lot.

Condition Report: Visual: Generally good condition. Craquelure scattered throughout the sky. Stretcher bar creases along the left and right edges. A small push in the canvas with paint loss in a tree lower center. Blacklight: A 6.25'' x 3.5'' area, a 2.75'' x 2.25'' area, a 2.75'' x 2.5'' scattered area, a dime-sized spot and other small spots of touch-up upper right. Small spots of touch-up scattered throughout the upper left and a single small spot of touch-up upper center.
