Evening Tones signed with artist's monogram 'OBL쳌mner' (lower center)--signed again on the lower tacking edge; signed again and inscribed with title on the stretcher oil on canvas 14 1/8 x 20 in. (35.9 x 50.8 cm.) PROVENANCE The estate of the artist. Acquired by the present owner by 1963. Vernon . The painting is one of three heretofore unlocated early oils by Oscar Bluemner, and is documented, along with record sketches, in Bluemner's first Painting Diary (Smithsonian Institution Archives of American Art, New York, Mircofilm Roll 339: Frame 114 [1911]; Frame 482 [1917]).
