Description: Late 5th century AD. A bronze radiate-headed bow brooch comprising: a D-shaped headplate with segmented plaque, openwork bird-heads to the border; broad bow with guilloche; lozengiform footplate with lappets to the shoulder, incised concentric lozenges, lateral lugs and D-shaped cell to the finial; catchplate and remains of pin to the reverse. Cf. Menghin, W. The Merovingian Period. Europe Without Borders, Berlin, 2007, item VIII.6.3. 37 grams, 95mm (3 3/4"). Property of a German collector; acquired in the 1980s and 1990s.
