OTTO MORACH (1887-1973)
Bremgarten-Dietkon-Bahn.
It's interesting to compare Morach's dizzying, vertiginous promotion for this railway to the work of other posterists for the same line. Whereas Plinio Colombi took an Impressionistic approach (see PAI-XXV, 281) and Albert Ruegg indulged in fluid symbolism (see PAI-XXI, 391), Morach attacks with angular, geometric force, thrusting architecture and a spiking mountainscape into the face of the passerby, making the train a secondary feature while daring the viewer not to pay attention to the destination. It's nearly impossible not to pay heed to the graphic upheaval, which for all its aggressive qualities, doesn't repel the eye, but instead wins it over with unapologetic bravado.
