OTTO MORACH (1887-1973)
PKZ/Jedermann.
PKZ stands for Paul Kehl of Zurich, who in 1881 founded Switzerland's first large scale men's clothing firm. Though this subsequently became Berger-Kehl, PKZ carried over as the trademark of the firm's men's wear and as the name of its stores. To the poster world, those letters stand for a remarkable body of outstanding posters the firm has commissioned in the past eighty years. Morach's exceptional poster is wondrous when seen as a single unit; when three of these posters were placed next to each other on a single stand, the effect was startling. The text here is German, with the 'Jedermann' text making a universal call to clothe. In Switzerland's highly poster-conscious environment, Morach was a truly inspired posterist and one of the best.
