Estimate: $800 - $1,200
Description: P. Norris, Liverpool, mans pocket chronometer with wind indicator, 16 jewels, key wind and set, gilt half plate movement, with pivoted detent escapement, the cut bimetallic balance with gold timing screws and helical hairspring, in a later, purpose made, sterling silver, hinged back and bezel, plain polished open face case with London hallmark and date letter for the year 1904, and Roman numeral, single sunk, white enamel dial, gold spade and poker hands, serial #7169, 52mm, movement c1860.
Condition Report: CASE: Minor scratches on outer surface of case; Minor scratches on cuvette; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Minor surface flaws. HANDS: Minute a bit short. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate; A few spots of verdigris; Minor spotting; Dirty; Lower balance hole with cracks. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks), needs service, should not be run prior to replacement of cracked balance hole. The escapement has a few interesting features: the detent is without counterpoise, the detent spring is a fine, straight piece of steel which rests against a pin projecting beneath the fourth wheel cock, and the detent is inverted, requiring the positions of the unlocking and impulse rollers on the balance staff to be reversed (unlocking immediately below balance arm, and impulse roller beneath).
