Philadelphia, PA, USALive Auction
"FACE AND OWL"
1958, numbered 12/200, with the ''EDITION PICASSO'' and ''MADOURA PLEIN FEU'' stamps on the underside, white earthenware clay vase with decoration in engobes and knife engraved under partial brushed glaze.
height: 9 3/4 in. (24.8cm)
width: 8 3/4 in. (22.2cm)
With faint smudges, fingerprints and/or surface soiling visible mainly in the unvarnished areas such as around the rim and a few faint stains including a 1 x 1 inch faint circular stain (possibly a fingerprint or residue from a sticker) in the background to the right of the owl's ear. Also faint surface soiling intermittently along the raised and unglazed areas of the vase overall. There are two approx. 1/4 to 1/2 inch gray scuffs at the rim above the human face. With dust accumulated on the interior. On the interior of the rim, there is a 2 x 1 inch area where the cream and terracotta colors both appear slightly brighter (consistent with a label or adhesive being previously adhered. This may also explain the traces of silver foil that appear in this area). With pieces of green felt adhered to the underside. Otherwise in good condition.
