First edition of this suite of portraits drawn from paintings by Watteau. They have been engraved by Pierre Filloeul (1696-1754). Jean Antoine Watteau (1684-1721) was the famous inventor of the fête galante genre, and also a talented engraver and designer. The figures reproduced here are mostly drawn from his paintings relating to commedia dell'arte, another genre in which Watteau excelled, and which were often reproduced in print. - Extremely rare.
