Description: PAINTING OF A SEA CAPTAIN. Portrait identified as Jonathan Herrick Lovett (1772-1844) of Beverly, Massachusetts, painted when he was twenty-five. He is pictured wearing a brass buttoned overcoat and holding a telescope. According to an account by his granddaughter, after his seafaring days Captain Lovett was known as Colonel Lovett and was a deacon of the Dane St. Church. (Brief biography included). Oil on canvas, rebacked with restoration. 24"h. 20"w. Black frame. 28 3/4"h. 24"w.
