Description: The Brass repoussed to a modeled in the form of a caparisoned standing figure of an elephant, the head facing straight forward, carrying a three candle-holder, vase atop the blanket with an inverted neck and flared rim candle holder on its back. The blanket decorated with relief of scrolling foliate. Three candelabra everted from a scrolling floral row of metal are held by vertical supports that end in taper. Each of the candle bowls and spandrels suspending a jade ring (one missing). The trunk raised and curved forward between two Jade tusks suspended from the mouth. Adorned with many jewels and pendants on the body, inlaid with carved turquoise and agate beads (some missing). The elephants standing on a rectangular double lotus throne pedestal. The elephant is sometimes shown carrying a "treasure" vase (bao ping) on its back. Since the word "vase" (ping ) has the same pronunciation as the word for "peace" (Ping'an ), the implied meaning is "may you have 'good luck' (elephant) and 'peace' (vase)". A slim support bar lifts the top while securing to four scrollwork legs that protrude outwards at the very bottom of the candelabra. Elegance curls add grace to the design as well as fine detail to the overall presentation. The plain middle offers plenty of room for broad ribbons, flower bouquets, wreaths and anything else you might want to use to blend this exquisite piece with the rest of the venue décor.
