A child with bagpipes, and subsidiary studies of the head signed with monogram and inscribed 'PB op fig de britannia' and with inscription 'Mr Harris'; arm studies ( verso ) pencil stumped, white chalk on light brown paper 12.1/8 x 6.1/8 in. (309 x 155 mm.) A study for the figure on the left of the oval medallion representing an allegory of La musique en Grande-Bretagne in the Grand Foyer of the Paris Opera, J. Foucart and L.-A. Prat, Les peintures de l'opera de Paris de Baudry à Chagall, Paris, 1980, fig. 35. Baudry finished the decoration of the Opera in 1874, after ten years of work. The present sheet is part of a group of ten allegories on the cornice over the doors of the Foyer. Each picture measures 2.2 x 1.6 meters.
