Description: 1931/35 RABAT. Part de Fondateur. brown, green. A large group of identical founder shares of what is today known as SAMIR. After independence from France, the Société Chérifienne des Petroles was nationalised by the Moroccan State. Together with the Italian industrialist Enrico Mattei then head of ENI, SAMIR was created as the only oil refinery in Morocco. With a capacity of 10 million tonnes per year, it is one of the main refineries in Africa. In 1997, the company was privatized. In 2014, the Saudi Industrial Mohammed Al Amoudi took a majority stake. Yet, the company was heavily indebted and in August 2015 the refinery was shut down. In March 2016, the Court of Casablanca announced the liquidation of SAMIR.
