Description: Photographs (JONATHAN LEAVITT), Colonial Clergyman. Ambrotype photograph of an illustration of Rev. Jonathan Leavitt, Choice Very Fine. Being a seated pose, taken from a painting, 1/6 plate, 3.5 x 3 wood and cardboard case with velvet inlays and oval gilt mat. Comes with an 8-page printed biography of Leavitt1s life, and a short vintage manuscript in brown ink: Rev Jon Leavitt was born in Suffield.. 1731. graduated at Yale 1753. ordained at Walpole N.H. Mar 27, 1761,dismissed 1765. installed in Charlemont [Massachusetts] 1767... he preached the remainder of his life on the same spot died Sept 7, 1802,aged 71... Very minor wear to case or to gilt mat. A very intriguing ambrotype, even more valuable because of the identifying materials. Extremely rare photo!
