Chicago, IL, USALive Auction
Description: This is a fantastic early beaded sheath circa 1870 comprised of brain-tanned hide. This exact sheath is pictured in Early Knives and Beaded Sheaths, of the American Frontier by Baldwin, pg 3 2nd row down 2nd from left. Note last photo is a photo from the book. This sheath is thick, it was not a tourist item. The Sheath was likely Warrior used and overall has a great early patina, showing use. The knife goes with it. Sheath is 9 3/4" L X 2 3/4" W. The back sports beaded animal tracks. It is rare to have beading on both sides of early sheaths. A collector plus. Here is a rare opportunity at an older sheath with provenance of being pictured in a book about Early Sheaths.
