Description: Polyphon Musicwerke, Leipzig, Germany, "Style No. 104 Upright" music box with double combs playing 15 1/2" discs on coin operated spring wound movement with lever for manual operation activated by turning a key on the side of the case to circumvent coin operated feature in a carved walnut cabinet with harp decorated front door, including 7 discs
Dimensions: 44in x 24in x 14in
Date: 1895
Condition Report: the case retains its original finish with minor scuffs and scrapes on some moldings. The fabric backing the harp and the backboard have been replaced. The top and finials are original and the original Polyphon metallic tag is present. The movement plays and has a great sound but will need service and the Geneva stopworks is absent and should be replaced to prevent overwinding. Please see Bowers "Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments", page 155 for an engraving and thorough description of this music box. These models were often used in English pubs and were placed on the counter for use by patrons.
