This special model comes from the possession of a real car lover and has a mileage of just 31,000 miles. All original documents including the proof of purchase are in existence. What is particularly worthwhile mentioning is the diary the owner kept, as it documents the tender loving care.
This TransAm has the rare Radial Suspension, which means that it has disk brakes in front and rear, as well as stabilizers on both axles. In combination with the 4-gear transmission the TransAm has an unusually agile performance in comparison with other American cars from these days.
Introduced on the US market in 1969, this Firebird belongs to the second generation built between 1970 and 1983 – with minor changes. The Firebird's front part was modified in 1977, the two rectangular headlamps that were integrated into the radiator grill were also used for the 1978 model. Additionally, a new range of engines was introduced. All engines were standard motors from Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac.
The next fundamental revision of the front part took place in 1979. Pontiac abandoned the previous radiator grill. The four headlamps were separately insert into the grill screen of the ‘softnose’. The range of engines offered reached from a 3.8 liter with 107 kW (145 hp) to a 6.6-liter engine with 162 kW (220 hp). With a production volume of some 211,453 units, the 1979 Firebird was the most successful model of the type series. The TransAm was with only 7,500 models the top model of the series. (bde)
