Description: 17th century AD. A D-section gold hoop with facetted outer face, pie-dish bezel with inset corn-blue sapphire gem. See Bonewitz, Dr. Ronald Louis, Gems, 2013, p.59-63. 7.69 grams, 25mm overall, 18.02mm internal diameter (approximate size British P, USA 7 3/4, Europe 16.55, Japan 16) (1"). Property of a Sussex lady; acquired before 1990. The stone was examined in detail by Dr. Bonewitz who observed: 'The gem cut is very sophisticated for the period, in design similar to a modern scissors cut. The stone also has several interesting inclusions: two reddish rutile crystals along one edge, and several dark, internal inclusions that appear to be rutile or perovskite. The stone weighs approximately three carats.'
Condition Report: Very fine condition. A large wearable size.
