Description: Poynter (Sir Edward, painter and medallist, first Slade Professor, 1836-1919) Long Autograph Letter signed to Henry Craik, Dean and Secretary of Queen's College for Ladies, 15pp., sm. 4to, 28 Albert Gate, SW, 26th June 1879, written in his capacity as Director of Art and Principal of the National Art Training Schools, South Kensington Museums [the V&A] commenting on the quality of teaching under Miss Lassman and others, "I do not think I exaggerate when I say that I have never in my experience seen beginners more excellently taught or producing better results", and comparing it unfavorably with Miss Dicksee's class, "the pupils are evidently set to too soon, & carry on a loose & scratchy method of execution with the pencil", folds, slightly browned. ***Queen's College, London, founded in 1848 by Frederick Denison Maurice, professor of English Literature and History at King's College London and Christian Socialist thinker..
