More About this Item

Description: 1949-1959 BRUXELLES. By law of 6 Oct. 1944, all owners of shareshad to exchange their certificates for new shares between 16 and 31 Oct. 1944. Those not exchanged, became valueless. At least, that was the general rule, but some could be exchanged in later years as well. This was part of the famous "Gutt Operation" named after the Belgian Minister of Finance Camille Gutt to counter inflation and act against financial war crimes. The lot consists of the annual publications of "Renouvellement des titres - liste récapitulative des titres belges au porteur soumis à échange ou régularisation" from1950 to 1959, as well as some extra lists. These publications give, for instance, the information as to which shares could be exchanged for which new ones, and so much more. A fascinating part of the financial history of Belgium. These publications are extremely difficult to find.
