RAOUL DUFY
(1877 - 1953) French painter who abandoned Impressionism for Fauvism, known for his bright, colorful paintings. Nice A.L.S. "Raoul Dufy" 2pp. 4to., Tucson, May 4, 1951, to fellow artist Charles Zadok, in French, in part: "...Thanks for your letter...and also for the cheeses which are very appreciated. Please excuse my lateness in writing, I haven't found French [ink for my pen] and my hand is weakened [?]...Work is going very well. The Arizona light is favorable to the painter, for truly in Boston I didn't make anything of my own. Here I am developing my subjects Le Cargo black...which is colored as during the good times of Fauvism. And then there is also the Mexican musicians and if the heart you talk about tells always one may be able to try a portrait...". Boldly penned and in fine condition.
