Description: This is an Extremely Rare 19th Century “MUSIC” Book Compilation of Early to Mid-1800’s Sheet Music. This undocumented, uncommon, unpublished, unsigned, of unknown origin, bound book measures approximately 10.25” x 13.25” x 1.5”. The book is in good condition for its age, circa 1840-1870, with fair binding and cover wear, (a couple pages with tears). The pages within are for the most part crisp and minor discoloring on some. This extremely unique collection of sheet music is a compilation of music of all variations and dates unknown. Most of the sheet music begins with a beautifully engraved title cover page and verbiage as to when it was entered according to the Act of Congress in the year “example 1840” and by “whom and where”. Using the internet, examples of this sheet music is also found in the form of scans or microfilm on the United States Library of Congress website https://www.loc.gov/ (searching by specific name of song or composer). This rare piece of history includes and is not limited to the listed titles and artists described below: Elssler Quadrilles, No 1 & No 2 arranged by CH. Zeuner New York John F Nunns adapted by Francis Weiland and arranged for the Piano Forte; Second Edition African Quadrilles, selected from the most admired Negro Melodies and arranged for the piano forte by John C Scherpf published by F. Riley (See photo for list of songs); Chinese Bell Quadrilles composed & respectfully dedicated to Miss Georgiaanna McCoy with great applause by Murray’s Band, Baltimore; Glenmary Waltzes by Rich S Willis dedicated to his sister Mrs N.P. Willis; Grand Dandler Waltz composed by L. V. Beethoven; The Lawrence Waltz by Henry Lemoine; Polka Waltz Piano Forte by Camille Schubert; Lament of the Irish Emigrant Mrs Price Blackwood the Music by William R Dempster; One Struggle More Ballad by Lord Byon Music by Mrs Robert Arkwright; Worcester Guards Quick Step Boston Brigade Band 1840 by Samuel R Leyland Boston; and many more with numerous songs and lyrics. The spine of the book is simply titled “Music”. This is a wonderful piece of history that was part of an estate where it has been handed down for over 5 generations and the only story from the remaining family member, as she was told simply, “This book is very special”. For the music enthusiast or collector of rare books or antiquities, this book is surely one of those pieces that you just “know or feel” that this is something very special and extremely rare.
