Description: This is a Rare Original Antique Polyphon Large Cent Upright Coin Slot Music Player Circa 1870. This piece was on display in the Dow Museum, St Augustine Florida, as a gift of Kenneth Worcester Dow and Mary Mahon Dow. The polyphone was a precursor to the juke box and required a large cent or penny to play. This piece is in lovely display condition with average antique wear and some signs of wood boring holes (All pieces from the museum were professionally treated, and all damage is old). The locking key is missing, however the front door and music box are currently unlocked. We have not tried to operate this machine. The seal on the inside includes “Schutz Mark” and is clearly marked Polyphon. There are approximately 37 metal music discs included. The discs vary in condition and size. The piece measures approximately 34.25” x 14.5” x 25.25”. As with any music player of this age, cleaning or repairs may be needed. This piece is from the Dow Museum Collection.
