More About this Item

Description: 1 May 1824 MADRID. Bond of 200 Pesos. black, buff. No 38474. The Spanish royal finances were in a disastrous state after 1815, and were reorganised from 1818. The Caja de Amortizacion replaced existing bonds with new types, with a new repayment plan. New bonds were of 100, 200 & 400 pesos (& perhaps higher values, not known to us). This piece, the 200 peso, has an elegant border of leaves, snakes, etc. All values show the royal coat-of-arms of Spain. They were all printed from copper-plates, engraved by A. Arroyo.
