[Douze Bouquets Dessinés et composés par P.J. Redouté lithographiés par A. Prevost et Pointel du Portail], 5 original parts (all published?), 54 hand-coloured lithographed plates only (of 60) after Redouté, by Prévost (8) or Pointel de Portail (46), all printed by Villain and with 'C.S.'[chroth] blindstamp in lower margin (lacking plate nos.19, 20, 40, 50, 57 and 58; plates 18 and 22 with paper browned, slight smudging to colour plate 36, slight spotting to 9 plates), without title or text, unbound as issued in publisher's wrappers, (parts 1 and 2 with tears to upper cover or backstrip, small marginal tears to parts 3-5), large 4to (359 by 275mm.), Paris and New York: C Schroth or Bailly Ward & Co., [circa 1835]
THE ONLY KNOWN COPY OF A FINE SERIES OF MIXED BOUQUETS BY REDOUTÉ.
From information on the wrappers the work was conceived in 5 cahiers, each to contain 12 plates. These are not copies of earlier prints, and establish Schroth's position as the likely publisher of other lithographs of Redouté's work.
The present work adds to the list of only 30 previously recorded lithographs after Redouté and published by Schroth. These are: Receuil de six beaux bouquets (Hunt, Redoutéana, 46; Great Flower Books, p.129); Reunion de douze planches de fleurs (Hunt, Redoutéana, 47; Great Flower Books, p.129); Les Mois (Great Flower Books, p.129, with 12 plates). All are of the greatest rarity.
