Condition / Notes: This antique volume is a first edition, bound in blue cloth with black and blue stamped pictorial design and gilt lettering to the front cover, and black lettering and pictorial design to the spine. The volume displays external wear, with light rubbing, a few spots of soiling, and fading to the spine. The binding is sound. A previous owner's signature, dated 1917, is present on the front flyleaf. The interior of the volume is clean and bright, well-illustrated with photographic plates, including depictions of polar ships, Eskimo people, Arctic wildlife, and whaling expeditions.
