Description: 2nd-3rd century AD. A carnelian intaglio engraved with standing image of Dionysus holding a bunch of grapes, set into a sympathetic modern gold ring with interlocking wire bezel with three beads of granulated gold at the intersecting points; oval bezel decorated with granulated edge. 3.80 grams, 21.84mm overall, 19.10mm internal diameter (approximate ring size British S, USA 9 1/4, Europe 20.00, Japan 19) (3/4"). From an old Suffolk collection; formed 1990-2000.
