Description: 1st-3rd century AD. A furniture fitting, possibly a latch clasp, with long tapering handle ending in an acanthus leaf with the head of Medusa in the centre with scrolled acanthus leaf under the chin; three projecting scrolled lugs to the sides, square catch to the back. 257 grams, 15cm (6"). Property of a European gentleman living in London; acquired in the UK before 1980.
