Description: 3rd century AD. A flat-section gold hoop with discoid bezel, crimped flange and inset carnelian plaque with intaglio regardant eagle on a base line. Cf. Marshall, F.H. Catalogue of the Finger Rings, Greek, Etruscan and Roman, in the Department of Antiquities, British Museum, London, 1907, item 561 for type. 3.09 grams, 19mm overall, 14.01mm internal diameter (approximate size British F, USA 2 3/4, Europe 3.98, Japan 4) (3/4"). Property of a Surrey collector; acquired in the early 1970s.
