Description: 1st century AD. A silver bow brooch of kräftig profilierte type with bulbous bow, crossbar, ribbed collar with ropework detail, swept foot with balustered terminal; void to the reverse of the upper bow, extended catchplate to the rear of the footplate with piercings; spring with chord and pin to the reverse. Cf. Hattatt, R. Ancient Brooches and Other Artefacts, Oxford, 1989, item 78 for type. 11 grams, 41mm (1 3/4"). Property of a German collector; acquired in the 1980s and 1990s.
