Description: 1st-2nd century AD. A bronze brooch comprising a rectangular plate with high-relief rosette and scrolled tendril decoration within a bifid border, projecting catchplate below, sprung pin to the reverse. 26 grams, 48mm (2"). From a private collection; formed 1965-1975. The brooch is unusual in that its main decorative feature is a rectangular plaque similar to contemporary varieties of plate brooch. However, the sprung pin is more usually associated with certain types of bow brooch (e.g. the knee-brooch and trumpet types").

Condition Report: Fine condition. Rare.
