Description: 1st-2nd century AD. A silver ligula with piriform bowl, openwork scroll to the neck, balustered shank with ribbed knop finial. Cf. Jackson, C.J. The Spoon and its History, in Archaeologia, vol.53, item 23. 24 grams, 16cm (6 1/4"). Property of a Surrey collector; acquired in the early 1970s.
