Reads in full: Feb. 11-1991/ Dear Rex/ Could I ask a favor of you? Will you please tell all of the White House executive staff who signed that Happy Birthday card that both Nancy & I were deeply moved and thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts./ You know we are frequently asked if we miss Washington. We have one answer to all who ask that question. We simply but sincerely say, We miss the people. And all of you at the White House are the people were talking about. You did so much to make our lives pleasant and comfortable. We think and talk of you often. No one can take your place in our hearts./ Again we thank you for remembering us with that card and for keeping our memorys of those 8 years in the White House so warm and happy./ You added to my happiness on that special day- the 41st anniversary of my 39th birthday./ With warmest regard to all of you./ Ronald Reagan.
