Description: Rosa, Salvator. HAS LUDENTIS OTIJ CAROLO RUBEO SINGULARIS AMICITIAE PIGNUS D D D. Nuremberg: Jacobum de Sandrart Pictorem, n.d. [late 17th c.] 4to. 8.75" x 6.5". 60 etched plates on 60 leaves (including title, of 62?) Bound in early marbled boards, spine portion lacking and exposing the backing which is comprised of a fragment from an early vellum manuscript leaf. Boards rather toned and rubbed, loss at corners and edges. Title with some soiling/staining, former owner's bookplate to front pastedown and small bookseller's label to rear pastedown, some markings in pencil in various places, foxing throughout though mostly confined to margins, several leaves with faded water-stain to lower margin (lower 1/2", not approaching plates), rear pastedown and last three leaves with some worming near gutter, final two leaves with corner-stains. Good. ********************************************** Famous series of etched plates by Rubeus after Rosa. "They were copied, imitated and forged much more often than his other prints, so often that it is almost impossible to keep track of all the later variations" (Richard Wallace, The Etchings of Salvator Rosa, 12.)
