Description: Russian plique-a-jour, cloisonné, champleve, and painted enamel silver-gilt centerpiece late 19th century, possibly bolin, moscow The gilt-washed convex fluted bowl with high shaped rim of plique-a-jour enamel in green, red, orange, and purple, on central knopped cloisonné enameled standard draped with garland and showing scrollwork amidst hues of white, red, blue, and green, all on a circular base with four medallions painted with a Scandinavian stave church, fjord, Viking ship, and a mountainous landscape with figures surrounded by a filigree ground, raised overall on four scroll feet depicting champleve enamel palmettes. H: 13 in.

Notes: The Bolin firm pre-dates that of Fabergé, founded by Karl Edvard Bolin in the early 1830s in St. Petersburg. His younger brother Henrik Conrad founded Bolin & Jahn in Moscow about 1850, which was later merged with the original St. Petersburg operation. By 1900, they were among the most important jewelers in Russia, producing a wide range of objects in competition with Fabergé and Hahn.
