Description: [France] Sanson. Map of France and its acqusitions by Nicholas Sanson: LE ROYAUME DE FRANCE, et ses Acquisitions vers les Pays Bas l’Allemagne, l’Italie, et l’Espagne… Paris: Pierre Mariette, 1665. Double-page map showing rivers and towns. Later hand coloring of map and scale. 15 ½ x 20 3/8 in. The image is essentially near fine, although the coloring is clearly modern. In the margins, there is some mat burn (toning under where the matting was while it was in the frame). The upper edge of the verso has a tape strip (accounting for about ⅔ of the length of the upper edge). This is how it is hinged. (The tape is not on the upper edge.) The margins have been trimmed with slight unevenness, but the plate mark is unaffected. Below are approximate measurements of the margins. Lower edge: about ¾ of an inch below the lower edge of the border, or ⅜ inch below the lower plate mark. Upper edge: About ⅝ inch above upper border, or ½ inch above upper plate mark. Left edge: 1 inch to left of border, or ⅝ inch to left of plate mark. Right edge: ⅞ inch to right of border, or ⅝ inch to right of plate mark.
