Description: Agate water dropper made from carved red, black, and opaque white agate. Branches, flowers, and a bird's head are carved out of the agate stone. The bird's head has a crest and its mouth has a drilled hole that serves as the spout. The lid is carved with a bird that is lying down. The wooden base is carved with gourds and vines. Scholars use water droppers such as this one to mix water with ink in an ink stone. The agate water dropper is 2 1/2 inches high without the base. It is 5 inches high by 3 inches wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: It is in good condition. Provenance: From a Washington DC estate, formerly in the collection of Mr. Marcel Baudez who was the French Consul General in Shanghai from November 1938 until May 1940 and the Fall of France to Nazi Germany.
