Description: School of Paul Delaroche (French, 1797-1856)

Portrait of the French General Jean Baptiste Kléber (1753-1800) as a Young Man
Unsigned, inscribed "Delaroche...665," and stamped "THOMPSON COLLECTION/NEW YORK
-1870/Geo. P. Rowell" on the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 18 1/4 x 15 in. (46.4 x 38.1 cm), framed.
Condition: Craquelure, blooming, losses/flaking, surface grime.

Provenance: Executrix's Sale of Mr. Thomas Thompson's Extensive and Valuable Collection of Ancient and Modern Pictures Being the Most Important and Costly Collection ever offered in this Country To be Sold at Auction, Positively Without Reserve, Boston; Henry H. Leeds & Miner, New York, February 7, 1870, no. 665; private New England collection.
