Description: Schrenck von Notzing, Jakob. Augustissimorum imperatorum, seren-issimorum regum, atque archiducum, illustrissimorum principum, necnon comitum, baronum, nobilium, aliorumque clarissimorum virorum ... verissi-mae imagines. Innsbruck: Agricola, 1619 [1601.] 19" x 14". 131 leaves, including: title within engraved border, portrait of Archduke Ferdinand II, 4 leaves preface, and 125 leaves with full-page engravings with explanatory text to verso. Period vellum over boards, vellum toned and soiled, spine pulled, front hinge pulled. Title soiled with marginal chips, closed tears and old repair. Contents are generally clean though sections with corner stains, several old paper repairs and marginal chips, some closed tears (most marginal but approximately 6 entering the plate area), a few minor worm-tracks (marginal), final leaf with upper margin chipped and with stain entering the printed area. Contents Very Good overall with most flaws contained to margins. This copy with an index to the plates in manuscript on leaf, laid in. ****************** A finely illustrated work in large format, the work was commissioned by Archduke Ferdinand II. The plates depict various leaders wearing armor. This work is said to contain "the finest plates of armor in existence." (Maurice Cockle.)
