SCRIMSHAW NAUTILUS SHELL BY CHARLES H. WOOD.
England, mid 19th century, shell. Finely incised by the artist highlighting two steam ships, The Great Britian and Great Western. The sides showing crest of England with lion and horse opposing images of the ships and their dimensions, with special note from the artists reading: "The little nautilus with purple pride expands its radiant wings and dances o''er the tide. ENGRAVED with a common penknife by C.H. Wood who had the distinguished honor of presenting one similar to Her Most Gracious Majesty QUEEN VICTORIA 1845."
