Description: 6th-5th century BC. An iron dagger with two-edged leaf-shaped blade, parallel median slots, omega-shaped guard, grip with raised notched edges, double-loop pommel with bird-head detailing and transverse bands; mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. Meliukova, A.I. Vooruzhenie Skifov, Moscow, 1964, plate 20, items 5-14. 1.8 kg, 46.5cm including stand (18 1/4"). Property of a London businessman, from his grandfather's collection formed after World War II; thence by descent 1972.
