John Selden (1584-1654), the "most learned person in England" in the seventeenth century, was a lawyer, an antiquarian, a member of Parliament, and the greatest expert of his day on British legal matters. De Dis Syris Syntagmata II is an analysis of the Pagan gods of the Hebrew bible, particularly the Syrian Gods.
