Lot 183: "Shropshire Mansions" [title stamped in gilt on upper cover and spine]. A large folio (510 x 360mm.) album of c.150 pages with hand-coloured engraved map of Shropshire and c.150 late 18th- and 19th-century engravings, lithographs and early photographs of the principal country houses of Shropshire, a few by Nathaniel Buck, and one small original drawing, the collection mounted, tipped-in or loosely-inserted, mounted one or several to a page, many pages blank, old manuscript index at the end. Late 19th-century half brown morocco gilt with "Vol. I" in one spine compartment (extremities rubbed). Provenance: John Harris (bookplate); Stanley Leighton (armorial bookplate). Stanley Leighton (1837-1901) was Member of Parliament for North Shropshire and also for Oswestry. He was a keen antiquary and a member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.
